A few years later, Andrew Jackson's Hermitage Mansion was completed in 1821 (200 years ago) and has welcomed more than 17 million visitors since opening as a museum in 1889. Like never before, families and friends can explore the 7th President's entire life from his humble beginnings to his presidency with their exhibit Andrew Jackson: Born for a Storm. Take a one-hour personally-guided tour of Belmont Mansion, completed in 1853 by Adelicia and Joseph Acklen and recognized as one of the most elaborate and unusual homes in the South. Learn how Adelicia secretly conspired with both the Confederate and Union forces to emerge from the Civil War with her fortune intact. Next, travel to Belle Meade Historic Site, where 100 years of history come to life as costumed guides tell stories of plantation life. Today, guests may explore the remaining 30 acres and find the original cabin, a slave cabin, and a massive Carriage and Stable House built in 1892.
